GoldenOak Under the Stars

GoldenOak Under the Stars

Standing outside with other people, watching musicians perform on stage and experiencing the feeling of having live music wash over you, seems like a such a distant memory. Saturday night at the Narrow Gauge Cinemas drive-in, for those of us lucky enough to be there, it was like stepping into a time capsule and lived something special.

GoldenOak, Farmington, ME natives returned to their roots and put on a very heartfelt and personal performance. Complete with beautiful original music, harmony driven covers and plenty of banter between the band members and the crowd. There were jokes between siblings Zak and Lena about firsts that may or may not have happened for them at that venue as they together collected another first by performing there. Local heroes were given shout outs while the band was showered with whistles and call backs. People danced, in their small groups in their socially distanced area, but still they danced!

We may have been 6 plus feet apart but we were all together under the crystal clear sky lit up with stars. For many this may have been the first live concert they have seen in the last 6 months and for some it may very well be the last for another 6 months. It would be hard to believe that anyone in attendance took that night for granted.

In response to the devastating financial impact the current global health crisis is wreaking across the live music industry, a handful of Portland music venue operators and industry professionals have formed the Maine Music Alliance as a support system to try and help sustain Portland venues through the crisis.

Maine Music Alliance is accepting donations via its website at www.mainemusicalliance.org.

The fund will be administered by the Maine Music Alliance in conjunction with Creative Portland as a fiscal sponsor that allows tax deductible donations.
